Celebrating farming
What you have in your hands is the very first issue of a brand new magazine, ZiMunda. We are very excited to be witnessing, and indeed celebrating a new chapter in the history of the Zimbabwean agricultural sector. ZiMunda will be reporting on the renaissance of farming within the country, looking at innovations (solar irrigation); expansions (regeneration of flower exports); and value-adding (chilli sauce making and marketing) within this industry. We aim to enlighten farmers about current farming trends within Zimbabwe and to share relevant technical (seedbeds, liming, refrigeration) and market information with farmers and all stakeholders within the industry. With most of us in Zimbabwe relying on agriculture – directly or indirectly- the strength of this sector is key to economic recovery.
On the ground, more and more people are moving ahead with the business of farming. Together we, as Zimbabweans, are working side by side, for the greater good of this unique country we are privileged and blessed to call home. It would, however, be remiss of us to ignore the very real challenges that face us (such as affordable finance and inputs, disease control and local and export marketing, to name three).
Our strength as Zimbabweans, from all walks of life, is in acknowledging both our diversity and our willingness to pull together and work for the common good of this country. In Zimbabwe, agriculture, from seed, from production through to manufacture, is a single interconnected unity. Together, we can grow. We are noted for our resilience and our ability to “make a plan”, and ZiMunda is all about recognizing that strength.
